ANNOUNCEMENT OF AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT
PROFESSOR POSITION
The Faculty of Environmental Earth Science, Hokkaido University, invites qualified applicants
to apply for the following position.
1. Position title
Associate Professor or Tenure-track Assistant Professor (Number of vacancies: 1), Female
only.
2. Institution
(Immediately after hiring) Section of Integrated Environmental Science, Faculty of
Environmental Earth Science (The specific group will be determined in consideration of the
wishes and research field of the successful applicant from four groups: Group of
Conservation on Natural Environments, Group of Environmental Geography, Group of
Environmental Adaptation Science, and Group of Practical and Earth Sciences for
Environment)
(Scope of change) Location as determined by the University
3. Educational responsibilities
(Immediately after hiring) Division of Environmental Science Development, Graduate School
of Environmental Science (The specific course will be determined in consideration of the
wishes and research field of the successful applicant from four courses: Course in Human
and Ecological Systems, Course in Environmental Adaptation Science, Course in Practical
Science for Environment, and Course in Global Environmental Management)
(Scope of change) Duties as determined by the University
4. Research field
Environmental science in a broad sense, including disciplines that can contribute to
understanding and solving environmental problems (e.g., ecology, geography, earth science,
chemistry, engineering, biology, agriculture, health science, medicine, and social science)
5. Qualifications
Only female (Recruitment of only female faculty members under the provisions of Article 8 of
the Equal Employment Opportunity Law). An applicant must have a doctoral degree by the date
of appointment. In addition, the applicant has excellent research achievements and leadership
skills in the above research fields and can contribute to students’ education and research
guidance activities in the above educational responsibilities.
6. Employment status
Associate Professor: Tenured
Tenure-track Assistant Professor: The intended tenure-track period is a maximum of five
years. The candidate’s performance during employment will be evaluated within five years to
qualify for a tenured associate professor or non-tenure track assistant professor. An additional
term of employment as an assistant professor is limited to five years. A non-tenure track
assistant professor is not eligible for tenure review after reappointment.
7. Probationary period
Three months
8. Working style
As working hours, Discretionary Work System for specialized work based on consent (*) or
Fixed Working Hours System will be applied.
* Determined as working 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.
9. Salary and allowances
Compensation based on the National University Corporation Hokkaido University Salary Rules
for Faculty Subject to Annual Salary System.
10. Social insurance
Employees’ Pension Insurance (Kousei Nenkin), MEXT Mutual Aid Association Health
Insurance, Employment Insurance, and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance

No smoking on the premises except in specified outdoor smoking areas.

(1) Curriculum Vitae (with Web of Science ResearcherID, if available)
(2) Lists of scientific publications (peer-reviewed original papers and others should be
separated) and research grants obtained
(3) Copies of five representative publications
(4) Summary of past research and plans for research (approx. 1,300 words)
(5) Summary of past educational activities and plans for educational activities (approx.
1,300 words)
(6) Names of two references with contact information
(7) CD, DVD, or USB memory containing the above information (1-6) in PDF files
14. Deadline

After the initial screening of complete applications, interviews will be scheduled for
prioritized candidates.
